If you have made someone redundant, you might be able to rehire them and furlough them under a new clause in the furlough scheme.
Buried within the rules is a crucial fact: those who were on the payroll on 23rd September (to be precise, your employer must have made a Real Time Information payroll submission on your behalf on or before 23rd September) and have been made redundant afterward can be rehired and placed on furlough.
The Treasury has also confirmed that this fact applies to those staff who left voluntarily too.
Here is the actual text from the government website.
“Employees employed as of 23 September (day of Job Support Scheme Announcement) and notified to HMRC by RTI on or before that date, who have since been made redundant can be rehired and placed on the Scheme.”
However, the decision is totally at your discretion. You will be liable for the Employers National Insurance and Pension Contributions.
