The Dental Laboratories Association are always excited to be joined by new affiliate members, and this month we are delighted to welcome debt recovery company Expert Collections to our affiliate membership. We sat down with Gary and Richard of Expert Collections to discuss the business and how its affiliate membership will benefit DLA members.
For those that don’t know yet, what is Expert Collections all about in a nutshell?
Expert Collections is a commercial debt recovery company that offers free debt recovery for the collection of overdue and outstanding debts. The business charges late payment interest in line with government legislation, and Expert Collections offers free debt collection, irrespective of the size of the debt.
Why would you recommend DLA members use Expert Collections?
Expert Collections is the most practical and cost-effective product in the UK within the commercial collections market. We offer our debt recovery services for free, as we charge the debtor company for our fees. Other companies will charge labs commission of anywhere between 10 and 25%, but we collect all of our money from the debtor. This is a service no other company offers.
Not only is it cost-free for labs to use us for their debt recovery, we also understand how important that money is, so we ensure that as soon as we get paid, so does our client. We make payments to our clients every single day, so that they can receive the money they are owed on the same day we do, a service that Expert Collections prides itself on.
We also offer free legal advice for companies that may require it. If advice is needed on a debt recovery matter, we can offer that free of charge, a service that solicitors would usually charge for. Finally, we have access to unlimited reports on other companies, so we can offer DLA members a free credit report on any company they might be chasing for payment, for their reference.

What made you decide to join the DLA as an affiliate member?
G: In my previous work with another company, I had experience of working with the DLA, so when I went into business with Richard, it was decided that we would revisit the DLA with our new company. I already had a good understanding of the relationship between dental labs and dentists, particularly those that are slow payers, through my past work with DLA members, and it seemed like a good idea to join as an affiliate member and offer our expert services to the membership.
What do you think DLA affiliates bring to the membership?
DLA affiliates essentially bring experience and knowledge in their particular field to the membership, and this is usually in areas technicians are unfamiliar with. Different businesses have different niches in the marketplace, and the same can be applied to the DLA’s affiliate members, which all offer different products and services to the DLA membership, ultimately to help them be as successful as they can be.
At Expert Collections for example, we bring a very specific service to the DLA members, and one that they may not be able to carry out themselves. Many lab owners are unsure of how to go about collecting money, or feel uncomfortable with the topic given how emotive a subject it can be. People don’t want to simply ring up and demand money, which is where we step in, helping them out before the problem grows any bigger.
This opportunity to have professionals dealing with such matters is a major benefit for the membership, as not only are they receiving top quality service, but they can also focus on their lab work, as opposed to other difficulties they might be facing.
